Joe Simmons joined the Town of Bridgewater Police Department in July 1998. Prior to coming to Bridgewater, Joe began his law enforcement career in November 1989 as a dispatcher with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office. He then worked as a dispatcher and a jailor before becoming a Rockingham County Deputy Sheriff in 1991, where he also held positions with SWAT and the R.U.S.H. Drug Task Force. In Bridgewater, Joe earned the rank of Sergeant in 2002 and Lieutenant in 2006 before becoming Chief of Police in September 2011.
Joe is a lifelong resident of Dayton and Bridgewater. He graduated from Turner Ashby High School in 1987 and attended Blue Ridge Community College. In 1991, Joe graduated from the 63rd Basic Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy.
