Personal Property

Personal Property tax is paid to Bridgewater annually, due by December 5.  Every motor vehicle regularly garaged, stored or parked in the Town of Bridgewater is subject to this tax.  The tax rate is $.75 per $100 of assessed value.  Assessments are determined by Rockingham County using DMV title records. This tax is levied in Bridgewater based upon residency January 1 of the tax year; Bridgewater is a non-prorating locality.  A penalty of 10% is charged for late payments.  Tax bills are usually mailed by early November; if you do not receive a bill but think you should, please call the Treasurer’s Office at 908-3399.

As a collection tool, the Town has partnered with the Department of Motor Vehicles to enforce vehicle registration holds on those who owe delinquent taxes or license fees.   Anyone who has delinquent taxes or fees will receive a written notice 30 days prior to the placement of a registration hold by the DMV.  Once a hold is placed all taxes, penalties and fees (including a $25 release fee from the DMV) must be paid in full prior to the release of the hold.
