Vehicle License

Vehicle License Fees are assessed on every motor vehicle and trailer regularly garaged, stored or parked in the Town of Bridgewater.    Determination of who is subject to these fees is based upon Personal Property records obtained by Rockingham County.  The fees are billed in conjunction with the Personal Property bills and are due December 5.

              Fees:
Cars, trucks and other vehicles:  $20.00
                  Motorcycles:  $7.50
Trailers (1500 lbs and under):  $6.50
                  Trailers (over 1500 lbs.):  $15.00

A penalty of $10 per license fee is assessed on fees that are not paid by December 5.

Pursuant to ordinance 3-15, one vehicle owned by an active member of a volunteer fire department or rescue squad shall be exempt from this fee.  The application for exemption (link) must be completed and returned to the Treasurer’s Office by September 30th of the year in which the person is seeking the exemption.

As a collection tool, the Town has partnered with the Department of Motor Vehicles to enforce vehicle registration holds on those who owe delinquent taxes or license fees.   Anyone who has delinquent taxes or fees will receive a written notice 30 days prior to the placement of a registration hold by the DMV.  Once a hold is placed all taxes, penalties and fees (including a $20 release fee from the DMV) must be paid in full prior to the release of the hold.
