When will Waste Management come to my business?
WM has divided the Town into quadrants. Your trash will be collected on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. The map below illustrates the quadrants. All items must be placed at the curb no later than 6 a.m. on the day of collection. After collection, any carts used for trash should be removed no later than the evening of your collection day.
Do I need to pay for my cart from Waste Management?
Nope. Waste Management will provide the carts.
What will the service cost?
If you decide that our service is a good fit for your business, the sanitation fee for businesses is $26.33 per month. The Town developed this fee using a formula that accounts for fee to Waste Management, the charge for the tonnage at the landfill, and a minimal administration cost.
What if the 96-gallon cart is not enough?
We will allow for businesses to have up to three 96-gallon carts. The fee for each additional cart is $13.22 per month. If that is not adequate, then your business will need to contract with a private company for trash removal. (But three carts is about the same size as a small dumpster, so they should accommodate most businesses.) To receive additional cart(s), please fill out this form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What about recycling and large-item collection?
We’re not offering these services to businesses yet. Both are money losers for us, and we’re afraid that businesses could overwhelm our facilities. We’ll bring businesses into the fold if we can.
Can I use my own trashcan or place a bag on the curbside for collection?
No, the automated arm of the truck can only lift and dump the carts provided by WM.
Where do I place my cart for refuse collection?
Put your cart curbside, in front of your business. Please allow three feet of clearance between objects and your cart.
I normally place my trashcans along the alley, can I continue to do that?
No, the Waste Management truck will not have adequate space on the alleys. Trash carts will need to be placed curbside on the scheduled collection day.
What if my trash is missed?
WM has a customer service number to report missed pick-ups, questions, or concerns (800-593-9529). Of course, you can always call us too. Our B-Connected agent can point you in the right direction to get your questions answered.
How do I report a damaged or stolen cart?
Use that same Customer Service number (800-593-9529). If you are unsure, call us! We will be able to get you to the right person.
What do I do if I want to make changes to my service?
We understand that the service Waste Management is providing may not be adequate for businesses that produce a lot of trash. Give us a call at 540-908-4212 and ask to speak with Gwen Gottfried. She will be able to help with questions and service changes. Gwen is also the Economic Development guru for the Town. She is a great resource for all of our business owners!
